For those who don’t know it already, Steve Jobs is going to be delivering his WWDC 2010 keynote speech on 7th June.
One of the things that will be talked about in the keynote is iPhone OS4. At this point I would like to ask you the following question: Are you ready for OS4? The reason I ask this question is because there are some iPhones and iPod touch devices that won’t work. Starting off with the unreleased 4th generation iPhone and the unreleased 4th generation iPod Touch. These devices will support all features of OS4.
The iPhone 3GS and the 3rd generation iPod Touch(late 2009) will support most features of OS 4.
For those of you who own an iPhone 3G or a 2nd Generation iPod Touch(late 2008), Design your own iPhone case then your device will only support some features of iPhone OS 4. For example the iPhone 3G and the 2nd generation iPod touch will not be able to do multitasking unless if you jailbreak your device.
of course the wifi iPad and the 3G iPad will support all features of iPhone OS 4.
This brings me on to the next part of this post. At what point will the support for your iPhone or iPod touch run out?
Here is a small list of all the iPod touches and iPhone unreleased and those currently available at the time of writing this post. Also I have written at which OS version the support will stop or has stopped for these devices. I will also put below when it would be a good time to buy an iPhone or an iPod touch to make sure that you can use it with the iPhone OS
As a general guideline, the iPod touch would be released around September, so if you want to buy an iPod Touch, don’t buy one now. Instead wait until SeptemberiPod Touch 1st generation(early 2008): support stopped permanently at OS4iPod Touch 2nd generation(late 2008): support will stop permanently at OS5iPod Touch 3rd generation(late 2009): support will stop permanently at OS6 iPod Touch 4th generation(late 2010): support will stop permanently at OS7First generation iPhone(late 2007): support stopped permanently at OS4
As a general guideline, the iPhone is normally released around July so if you want to buy one, then wait until July and try to go for an iPhone 3GS at least.iPhone 3G(July 2008): support will stop permanently at OS5iPhone 3GS(July 2009): support will stop permanently at OS6Fourth generation iPhone (June 2010): support will stop permanently at OS7
As far as I know, there are going to be no iPad releases until next January, but if you wish to buy one then feel free at the moment, but once October 2010 comes round, I suggest waiting it out until January 2011Wifi iPad: support will stop permanently at OS7Wifi+3G iPad: support will stop permanently at OS7Wifi iPad 2nd generation: support will stop permanently at OS8Wifi+3G iPad 2nd generation: support will stop permanently at OS8
That should give a rough idea of what to go for when considering buying a new iPod touch, iPhone or an iPad.
Until next time this is Adiman423
